Brief Plot Summary:
The world changed in 2001, post-9/11, when paranormal creatures announced their existence by bombing the middle-east in retaliation and in the name of America.
The current year is 2026, USA – paranormals, also known as ‘abnormals’ and ‘non-humans’ (including humans with abilities), have become little more than feared slaves, outcasts and rebels. There are those who live independently of a master and hold jobs and homes, but like all others, are forced to wear power-restricting collars and are in some cases segregated from humans. Slaves hold little or no control over their own lives.
Not all masters are cruel, and many free-living paranormals hold good jobs and have families and university educations. Yet all know that subjugation is no way to live. Other non-humans are experimented on by scientists. New species appear every week somewhere in the world, and humans discover that they have abilities which make them not-so-human in the government's eyes.
An underground rebel movement exists against human-kind. Some are violent, some are more peaceful. All yearn for freedom. This network is intricate and infiltrates the government. Yet freedom for those who are classed as lower citizens is a long way off...
Where did these creatures come from? Some already existed, many before humans did, hiding in the shadows and becoming little more than myth as time went by. Others come from portals which open up across the world in 'dimensional hotspots' where energy is constantly fluctuating and growing. Different worlds, times, dimensions, planets; some even come from outer space. It seems that the dimensional walls are weak. The government of course, as in all good sci-fi stories, creates species for the military and other reasons.
Wonder City is a fictional city set in Minnesota, with no exact location within the state. Wonder City laws are consistent across North America and most of the world. There are race wars in some countries. A few small countries have non-human governments; but are these any better than human-led governments?
