This sign should never have to be displayed in a public school, but it is. My old High School is held together by duct tape, is home to rats, dangerous molds and would never survive an earthquake. Rooms are flooding, roof tiles are water stained, and people have been getting very ill. A few of my classmates have been diagnosed with Cancer, and one of the teachers now has a respiratory infection. You would think that after all of this, the Canadian Provincial government would support building a new school, wouldn't you?
Well, there is a much nicer school in a wealthier part of town. This school puts out good grades, and a music program that would blow Glee out of the water. But their school is almost Brand New, and immaculate. Because of some parents who are concerned for their children's safety in the event of an earthquake, as everyone in province and country has the right to be, the government has decided to build THEM a new school first.
Huh. Let's backtrack here.
My old school has a snowballs chance in hell of surviving an earthquake. And even if most of the kids did survive, they and everyone in the surrounding area would be at risk for serious diseases from the asbestos in the building being kicked up. The school should only have to support 800, but now is working at 2000 kids due to other closures and an expanding community. It is not fair to the students, nor the staff, to have to put themselves in such harm every day. The government needs to do something about it, because they have been putting off giving us a new High School for much too long.
It's simply infuriating! >:/
