An easy, step-by-step guide to signing up! This is useful for any signups, but it’s particularly useful for people new to Proboards or RPG altogether.
xx. Read the information
Decide whether you want to join or not. Read all the information and consider what sort of character you might sign up as.
The rules are essential. And here is the plot, species guide and setting info, which will give you a grasp of what sort of world this is and where to fit your character. If you want help [glow=red,2,300]creating a species[/glow] or with RPG in general, take a look at the RPG Manual. This isn't mandatory but is a great guide for RPG and species/character creation.
xx. Sign up to Proboards
Come up with a username. For Proboards, most people usually use a lowercase shortened name, something easy to remember. This is your login name. You must be 13 or over to sign up to Proboards; this is in Proboards’ rules. You must use a valid email. Remember there is one account per person. This means you will play all your characters in the one account. It helps us tally how many members we really have and how active they are.
xx. Changing your username
Once you have signed up, you might decide you want a proper name with a capital letter and whatnot. Click on ‘profile’ and edit your information there. Once you have a character sorted, you can also change your avatar there. Usernames may be one of your character’s names (remembering that you still play all your characters under the one account) or another name you choose. It must be nothing obscene. And none of this crap: UsErNaMe. It will represent you on the board, so remember people are going to associate that name with you.
xx. Make up a character and sign up to the site itself
The next step is to create your character and sign up to My City of Wonders. Go back and refer to the species guide and such if you like.
Consider whether you want to use a character model (a celebrity or famous cartoon character) or not. Only one character model/face claim per person unless someone wants a twin. [glow=red,2,300]Click here[/glow] to see who is taken. This includes Canon cartoon/anime characters. You may also draw your own character, but you don't need a character avatar. You can rely on description alone if you wish. You must not use yourself as a character model for safety reasons! Your avatar does not have to be of your character model; it can be of something else which represents you or which you like.
To sign up, you need to fill out a [glow=red,2,300]character creation code[/glow]. The character creation code can be submitted in the [glow=red,2,300]character sign-ups board[/glow].
xx. You’ve been accepted!
Now that you’ve been accepted, lurk around, chat on the Chatango below (always good to do this before signing up also, to get a feel for the site and its members), read some people’s posts, and perhaps have a look at the RPG Manual. There are some handy hints about role-playing and writing, including character creation. You can also scroll to the bottom of the board for some OOC (out of character) fun. To get into some plots, private message someone or ask in the Chatango. Otherwise, you’re welcome to create a thread and maybe someone will come along and join it! If you have any issues, private message any of the staff members and we will be happy to help!
xx. Graphics/Profile
Avatars and signatures are NOT mandatory. If you use them, they must NOT stretch the board (you will notice if the board is stretched). You can change these by clicking 'Profile' and editing it.
We would love it if you put a link to your character's profile in your signature, even though this is also not mandatory.
Have fun and happy writings!
